freepress.net - VoIP provider Skype on Tuesday named former Motorola executive Scott Durchslag as its new chief operating officer.
Durchslag will assume the role effective immediately, and will report to Skype president Josh Silverman.
Durchslag joined Motorola in 2002, where he worked on product strategy, innovation, intellectual property, design, user interfaces, consumer experiences, partnerships, product marketing, and customer care, according to a Skype blog post.
During his tenure, he helped seal deals with Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Kodak that brought their products to Motorola phones.
"I believe in Skype not only because I've been a user since the early days, but also because I'm convinced the opportunities ahead for Skype are tremendous given how the world is changing," Durchslag said in a statement. Skype connects customers and enables "smaller businesses to grow without the unnecessary fuel consumption, costs and carbon pollution generated by needless travel."
"Scott has an outstanding track record and will be able to help us apply best practices in staying ever more customer-focused and nimble, even while becoming larger," said Silverman.
