How come the Professor knew a little about everything (hut building, a pedal taxi Gilligan drove, densitry, including a pedal powered drill, etc), yet couldn't repair a hole in the bottom of a boat? Or build a new one. Even island natives from neighboring islands could build simple boats.
I think he was an evil scientist, running experiments on the others.
